Virtual reality for astronauts

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm an astronaut on the International Space Station. There are always three astronauts living on the space station. The space station is three hundred kilometres above the Earth. It orbits the Earth sixteen times a day. Sometimes astronauts wear a spacesuit and go outside the space station. We do repairs and experiments. We call this a spacewalk. It is amazing, but it can be dangerous too. Before we go to the space station, we practise spacewalks in a virtual reality laboratory. In the laboratory, we wear a headset and special gloves.When I'm wearing the headset, I can't see the laboratory.I can see the space station, the sky and the Earth. It's exactly like being in space.With the gloves, I can touch objects, use machines and do repairs.

Flight simulators for pilots

Hi, 'm Daniel. I'm a pilot from London, in the UK. Every day, I fly a plane with four hundred passengers. We fly ten kilometres above the Earth and our speed is usually eight hundred kilometres an hour. It's important for pilots to practise flying. In the airport, there's a flight simulator. It's the same as the cockpit of a plane. We don't wear a headset or special gloves in the simulator. When we look through the window, we can see an airport or the sky. We sit in the simulator and we practise flying a plane. In the simulator, we can use the controls with our hands. We can talk to air traffi c control too. It's exactly the same as flying a plane. We practise fl ying at night and flying in a storm pace. With the gloves, I can touch objects,use machines and do repairs.
