The Statue of Zeus at Olympia was created in 430 BCE. It was the most famous artistic work in all Greece and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. To the Greeks, it was important to see the statue at least once in their life.

In Greek mythology, Zeus was the leader of the gods and ruled from Mount Olympus. He controlled the weather and caused terrible storms. He was also the protector of cities,homes, and strangers.

The most famous temple dedicated to the god was called the Temple of Zeus. It was built in 460 BCE in Olympia. In the temple, the Statue of Zeus sat on a large wooden throne that was decorated with the images of other gods and heroes. In his right hand, Zeus had a statue of Nike, the goddess of victory. Under his feet, there were two gold lions. The statue was more than 12 meters tall.
