LIFE IN INDIGENOUS VILLAGES IN CHILE

In Chile, some people live in villages. Villages are small and surrounded by nature. In the villages, people live connected to nature, their history, and their culture.

For many indigenous people, villages keep their culture alive. For example, some Mapuche live in villages in the Araucanía Region. They protect the land and speak Mapuzungun.

A Mapuche teacher reads books to children at their school in Temulemu, Temuco.

In the village, people grow food and take care of animals. They also make clothes, pots, and jewelry.

The community also participates in important spiritual activities, like the Ngillatun, and takes care of the land, rivers, and forests.

Members of the community participating in a spiritual ceremony.

Villages are more than homes. They are places where people protect their history and culture.
