A Begginner's Guide to Mobile Apps

The word"app"is an abbreviation for "application." It's a piece of software that can run through a web browser or offline on a device such as a computer, smartphone,tablet, or other electronic devices, including smart TVs and smartwatches. Apps may or may not have a connection to the internet.

Types of Apps

There are three main types of apps: desktop.mobile, and web. Desktop apps are usually much fuller than mobile apps and have all the features ofa program, whereas the mobile app is a simpler and easier-to-use version. Web apps can be full of features too,but they depend on the intemet connection and a web browser program.

Examples of Apps

Some apps exist in all three forms and are available as not only mobile apps but also desktop and web apps

Where to Get Apps

In the context of mobile apps, aimost every platform has an online shop where its users can download both free and paid apps. These are normally accessible through the device itself ora website.

Desktop apps are more widely available from unoficial sources such as web pages, but there are also some official online shops ran by companies.

Web apps load within a web browser and don't need to be downloaded.

Propósito y recomendaciones

El objetivo de este texto es que los estudiantes puedan profundizar a un nivel más técnico su conocimiento sobre aplicaciones. Es un texto un poco más desafiante ya que contiene un vocabulario más especializado, lo que ampliará sus nociones sobre el idioma inglés a través de un tema cotidiano para ellos. Se sugiere como actividad adicional o alternativa una reescritura del texto en las propias palabras del estudiante, a través de la instrucción: In your notebook, rewrite the text using your own words. Esto ayudará a que los estudiantes puedan asociar el nuevo vocabulario adquirido a sus conocimientos previos.

Profundización y variaciones

Para profundizar el vocabulario relacionado a la lectura, se sugiere que los estudiantes creen un glosario en sus cuadernos en los que busquen vocabulario relacionado a los conceptos revisados en el texto. Luego en parejas pueden retroalimentar los glosarios de cada uno. Using a dictionary or on the internet, look for the meaning of other words similar to the ones in activities 1 and 2. Write a glossary in your notebook. Then compare it with your seat partner and add the ones he or she has that you don't.

Ambientes de aprendizaje

Al momento de compartir las respuestas de las actividades con la clase, es importante que el docente mantenga un ambiente de respeto entre los estudiantes, quienes deben levantar la mano para pedir la palabra: Raise your hand to answer. También es importante que el docente dé prioridad de participación a quienes no suelen hacerlo,tanto por timidez o menor conocimiento del idioma.
