Modal Verbs: usos y estructura

Los verbos modales (can, could, may, might, will, would, should, must, have to) acompañan a un verbo principal en forma base y expresan intención, opinión, habilidad, permiso u obligación.

  • Offers and requests: Could, Would → Would you like some coffee?
  • Possibility and permission: Can, May, Might → May we sit here, please?
  • Obligation: Have to, Must → You must study harder.
  • Prediction and opinion: Will, Should → She shouldn't go out with that guy.

Estructura:

  • Afirmativa: sujeto + modal + verbo base + complemento.
  • Negativa: sujeto + modal + not + verbo base + complemento.
  • Interrogativa: modal + sujeto + verbo base + complemento + ?
