3.Say the sentences to a partner. Start with James or Carmen.

a, ...suggested climbing the mountain.

h... didn't think climbing the mountain was a good idea.

While James was climbing up the mountain,we felt another tremor! It was a really big one,and some focks were loosened because of it. James fell downhill and hurt his arm and head. I called my dad while checking if James was OK.

My dad was so mad! He drove us to the hospital, where they took care of James. I'm sure we both learned our lesson and will think twice before doing something this scary and irresponsible again! We both feel that we were really lucky because it was just a tremor and not an earthquake.

Un error frecuente que puede corregir en esta sección tiene relación con los falsos cognados, es decir,palabras que suenan o se ven parecidas a palabras en español, pero que no tienen el mismo significado. En este texto, este error se puede dar particularmente con la palabra"tremor”", la cual suena similar a"temor”en español. Para evitar esto, explique a los estudiantes lo siguiente:There are some words in English that sound similar to other words in Spanish,but in some cases they don't mean the same. These are the false cognates. For example, the word "tremor"sounds similar to "fear"in Spanish, but "tremor"means a soft earthquake.

Profundización y variaciones

Para profundizar y reforzar las actividades productivas de escritura, puede pedir a los estudiantes que piensen en una situación que hayan vivido similar a la de la historia. Luego pídales que escriban su experiencia y la ilustren de manera similar al texto que acaban de leer. Para esto, dé la siguiente instrucción: Have you ever lived a similar situation to Carmen and James'? Write it down and then illustrate it. Finally,share it with the class.
