Ejercicio 1

(Ejemplo 3, continuación) — Balanceo de la electrólisis del agua

Enunciado: balancear \mathrm{H_2O_{(l)} \xrightarrow{\text{electricidad}} H_{2(g)} + O_{2(g)}}

Paso 2 — Se balancean los átomos diferentes a H y O (aquí, el oxígeno)

  1. En reactivos hay 1 átomo de O y en productos hay 2 átomos de O.
  2. Se coloca el coeficiente estequiométrico 2 frente al agua: 2\,\mathrm{H_2O_{(l)}} \xrightarrow{\text{electricidad}} \mathrm{H_{2(g)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}
  3. Conteo del oxígeno: reactivos \mathrm{O}: 1 \times 2 = 2; productos \mathrm{O}: 2. Quedan balanceados.
  4. El coeficiente 2 también afecta al hidrógeno del agua: reactivos \mathrm{H}: 2 \times 2 = 4, mientras que en productos hay \mathrm{H}: 2. Hay que multiplicar por 2 el \mathrm{H_2} de productos.

Paso 3 — Se verifica el balance completo

  1. Se escribe la ecuación con el coeficiente 2 en el hidrógeno producto: 2\,\mathrm{H_2O_{(l)}} \xrightarrow{\text{electricidad}} 2\,\mathrm{H_{2(g)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}
  2. Conteo de reactivos: \mathrm{H}: 2 \times 2 = 4; \mathrm{O}: 1 \times 2 = 2.
  3. Conteo de productos: \mathrm{H}: 2 \times 2 = 4; \mathrm{O}: 2.
  4. Ambos lados tienen 4 átomos de H y 2 átomos de O.

Paso 4 — Conteo rápido de verificación

Reactivos: 4 H, 2 O. Productos: 4 H, 2 O. La ecuación está balanceada.

Respuesta: Ecuación balanceada: 4 H y 2 O en cada lado.

Respuesta

2\,\mathrm{H_2O_{(l)}} \xrightarrow{\text{electricidad}} 2\,\mathrm{H_{2(g)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}

2
Ejercicio 2

(Ejemplo 4) — Balanceo de la descomposición del óxido de mercurio

Enunciado: balancear \mathrm{HgO_{(s)} \xrightarrow{\Delta} Hg_{(l)} + O_{2(g)}}

Paso 1 — Número de átomos en reactivos y productos

  1. Se escribe la ecuación sin coeficientes: \mathrm{HgO_{(s)}} \xrightarrow{\Delta} \mathrm{Hg_{(l)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}
  2. Conteo: reactivos 1\,\mathrm{Hg}, 1\,\mathrm{O}; productos 1\,\mathrm{Hg}, 2\,\mathrm{O}.
  3. El oxígeno no coincide (1 vs 2), por lo que la ecuación no está balanceada.

Paso 2 — Se balancean los átomos diferentes a H y O

  1. El mercurio ya está balanceado (1 y 1), así que se balancea el oxígeno.
  2. Hay 2 oxígenos del lado derecho, por lo que se multiplica por 2 la sustancia del lado izquierdo que contiene el oxígeno: \mathrm{HgO}. 2\,\mathrm{HgO_{(s)}} \xrightarrow{\Delta} \mathrm{Hg_{(l)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}
  3. Conteo: reactivos 2\,\mathrm{Hg}, 2\,\mathrm{O}; productos 1\,\mathrm{Hg}, 2\,\mathrm{O}.
  4. El oxígeno queda balanceado (2 y 2), pero ahora el mercurio no: 2 en reactivos y 1 en productos.

Paso 3 (implícito, completamos el balanceo) — Balancear el mercurio

  1. Se coloca el coeficiente 2 frente al mercurio producto: 2\,\mathrm{Hg_{(l)}}. 2\,\mathrm{HgO_{(s)}} \xrightarrow{\Delta} 2\,\mathrm{Hg_{(l)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}
  2. Conteo final reactivos: \mathrm{Hg}: 2, \mathrm{O}: 2.
  3. Conteo final productos: \mathrm{Hg}: 2, \mathrm{O}: 2.
Respuesta

2\,\mathrm{HgO_{(s)}} \xrightarrow{\Delta} 2\,\mathrm{Hg_{(l)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}

Contenido de la página

Paso 2. Se balancean los átomos diferentes a H y O.

En la reacción \mathrm{H_2O_{(l)} \xrightarrow{\text{electricidad}} H_{2(g)} + O_{2(g)}} sólo hay hidrógeno y oxígeno; el desbalanceado es el oxígeno: 1 átomo en reactivos y 2 en productos. Se coloca un 2 como coeficiente estequiométrico al agua:

2\,\mathrm{H_2O_{(l)}} \xrightarrow{\text{electricidad}} \mathrm{H_{2(g)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}

Conteo: reactivos H: 2×2 = 4, O: 1×2 = 2; productos H: 2, O: 2. El coeficiente 2 también afecta al hidrógeno del agua, por lo que hay que multiplicar por 2 el \mathrm{H_2} de productos.

Paso 3. Se verifica que ya esté balanceada la ecuación química.

2\,\mathrm{H_2O_{(l)}} \xrightarrow{\text{electricidad}} 2\,\mathrm{H_{2(g)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}

Reactivos: H: 2×2 = 4; O: 1×2 = 2. Productos: H: 2×2 = 4; O: 2.

Paso 4. Se verifica con un conteo rápido: 4 H y 2 O en ambos lados.

Ejemplo 4

Se tiene la ecuación química: \mathrm{HgO_{(s)} \xrightarrow{\Delta} Hg_{(l)} + O_{2(g)}}

Paso 1. Número de átomos:

\mathrm{HgO_{(s)}} \xrightarrow{\Delta} \mathrm{Hg_{(l)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}

1-\mathrm{Hg}-1; 1-\mathrm{O}-2. El oxígeno no coincide, la ecuación no está balanceada.

Paso 2. El mercurio está balanceado; se balancea el oxígeno multiplicando por 2 el HgO:

2\,\mathrm{HgO_{(s)}} \xrightarrow{\Delta} \mathrm{Hg_{(l)}} + \mathrm{O_{2(g)}}

2-\mathrm{Hg}-1; 2-\mathrm{O}-2.

Ejemplos resueltos

Paso 2. Se balancean los átomos diferentes a H \mathrm{y}\mathrm{O}

En esta reacción en particular sólo hay hidrógeno y oxigeno, por lo que se debe verifi car cuál de los dos es el que está desbalanceado. En este caso es el oxígeno.Se aprecia que en reactivos hay un átomo y en productos hay dos, por lo que se debe anadir un 2 como coefi ciente estequiométrico al agua y multiplicar el subindice del oxígeno y del hidrógeno de los reactivos por 2:

\begin{aligned}\mathrm{H}_{2}\mathrm{O}_{(l)}&\xrightarrow{\mathrm{electricid}}\mathrm{H}_{2(g)}+\mathrm{O}_{2(g)}\\\mathrm{H}:2&\quad\mathrm{H}:2\\\mathrm{O}:1\times2&=2\quad\mathrm{O}:2\end{aligned}

Como se anadió un coeficiente 2 al agua, que también tiene hidrógeno, entonces el coeficiente también afecta al hidrógeno, por lo que se debe multiplicar por 2.

2H_{2}O_{(l)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{electricid}ad}H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}

Paso 3. Se verifica que ya esté balanceada la ecuación química.Al quedar balanceados los oxígenos, se sigue con los hidrógenos.

Al multiplicar del lado de los productos al hidrógeno por 2, la expresión queda:

2H_{2}O_{(l)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{electricidad}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\mathrm{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}2H_{2(g)}+O_{2(g)}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}2H_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}}2H_{2H_{2(g)}}+O_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}}}}2H_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}}}}2H_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}}}}2H_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}}}}2H_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{H}}}}}}}}2H_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}}}2H_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}}}}2H_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}}}}2H_{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{}}}}}\xrightarrow{\xrightarrow{\xrightarr Paso 4. Una vez más se verifica que ya esté balanceada la reacción con un conteo rápido.Ejemplo4

Se tiene la ecuación química:

Se tiene la ecuación química:\mathrm{HgO_{(s)}}\xrightarrow{\Delta}\mathrm{Hg_{(l)}}+\mathrm{O_{2(e)}}

Paso 1. Establecer el número de átomos que hay en reactivos y productos.

\mathrm{HgO}_{(s)}\xrightarrow{\Delta}\mathrm{Hg}_{(l)}+\mathrm{O}_{2(g)}

Se observa que el número de átomos de oxígeno no es el mismo en los reactivos que en los productos,por lo que la ecuación química no está balanceada.

Paso 2. Se balancean los átomos diferentes a H y O.

En este caso el mercurio está balanceado, por lo que se procede a balancear al oxígeno. Hay dos oxigenos del lado derecho, por lo que se multiplicará por 2 la sustancia en donde esté el oxigeno del lado izquierdo, que es HgO.

2\mathrm{HgO}_{(s)}\xrightarrow[2-\mathrm{O}-2]{\Delta}\mathrm{Hg}_{(l)}+\mathrm{O}_{2(g)}
